My personal apology - as a dispatcher at Y.C. - may not be enough, but I offer it sincerely. If I could identify this guy, I'd be happy to write up a complaint for you.

But. . . this was one driver, out of 2500 or so. Would you not be better served by reporting the incident to 311, in SF, and assuring he would be relieved of his A-Card (permit to drive a cab in SF), rather than punishing the other 2499 drivers who will be deprived of portions of their livelihood by the widespread departure of customers you are trying to arrange? Those other drivers have no control over what their fellow independent contractors do. They may - most of them - be excellent drivers, and refrain from expressing their anger when they travel distances to pick up fares who have left without notification. The incorrect time on the order - that would not have been the driver's doing, either. In servicing 3 to 4 thousand orders per day, mistakes do get made. We are sorry for each and every one. But, stuff happens.

Again, I apologize sincerely.

By the way, your photography is amazing, and I will be coming back to view your blog. Even though the one post endangers MY livelihood, too.

I don't blame the driver. That does not mean I support his tirade. It is very unprofessional and I am on your wife's side. All problems in the taxi industry stem from the irresponsibilility of the cab companies. I don't expect you to understand this because it is very complicated business. In a nutshell, the companies, across the USA are not setup like most businesses. They are setup to avoid all costs and responsibility towards the public and the drivers, whom they illegally classify as Independent Contractors. I could get out of jail, diaganosed with psychological disorders and drive a cab in most places that day. Or I could be perfectly normal, apply to drive, and be handed the keys with nothing but a reminder that I will owe the cab owner $$ at the end of the shift.
